An ultrasound can be scheduled typically between 6 and 8 weeks of gestation, but it simply depends on your provider. At Elevier Women’s Center, we offer no-cost limited obstetrical ultrasounds performed by a medical professional and read by an OB/GYN.
Why Ultrasounds Matter
Once you receive a positive pregnancy test, an ultrasound is important to receive to safeguard your health. It confirms key pregnancy details and empowers you in the decision making process.
If you are considering a medical abortion, the FDA only recommends medical abortion for women through 10 weeks of pregnancy. An ultrasound confirms three important pregnancy details, including:
1. Confirm pregnancy viability (whether your pregnancy is healthy and progressing)
2. Confirm pregnancy location (whether it’s located within your uterus)
3. Confirm how far along you are (gestational age)
Start With a Lab-Quality Pregnancy Test
Before scheduling an ultrasound appointment, be sure you know you’re pregnant. Start with a lab-quality pregnancy test to get answers about a potential pregnancy. We can help at Elevier Women’s Center with a no-cost lab-quality pregnancy test.
When To Schedule an Ultrasound
Typically, your medical provider, or the clinic you visit, will confirm with a lab-quality pregnancy test and can tell you when you can schedule an ultrasound.
Some providers have an early ultrasound (also called a first-trimester ultrasound or dating ultrasound), which can be done as early as seven to eight weeks of pregnancy. Other providers do early transvaginal ultrasounds. It simply depends on your provider.
