Pregnancy is a highly monitored health condition, and ultrasound ensures each woman knows the status of her pregnancy with confidence.
Regardless of what pregnancy option you’re considering, it’s essential to understand what’s happening inside your body, and that begins with an ultrasound. While a pregnancy test can indicate that you’re pregnant, an ultrasound provides essential medical details to confirm a viable pregnancy.
At Elevier Women’s Center in Elk River, MN, we offer no-cost, confidential ultrasounds to help you gain critical insight about your pregnancy.

What Does an Ultrasound Reveal?
Ultrasound uses sound wave technology to show your pregnancy in real time. A sonographer will then take measurements and provide three key pieces of information that a pregnancy test alone cannot confirm:
1. How Far Along You Are (Gestational Age)
Also known as gestational age, this tells you how many weeks into pregnancy you are. While tracking your cycle might give you a general idea, only an ultrasound can provide accurate measurements. This matters, especially if you’re considering abortion, as the abortion pill is only approved by the FDA through 10 weeks of pregnancy.
2. The Location of Your Pregnancy
Pregnancies typically implant and grow in the uterus, but in some cases, the fertilized egg (embryo) implants outside the uterus. This is called an ectopic pregnancy, and it requires timely medical treatment.
An ultrasound confirms whether your pregnancy is located inside the uterus.
3. Pregnancy Viability
A positive pregnancy test only tells you whether the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is present in your urine. It does not tell you whether or not your pregnancy is viable and progressing.
Miscarriages occur in an estimated 10-20% of known pregnancies. An ultrasound checks for a heartbeat and determines if the pregnancy is growing.
