It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? Take the abortion pill, and your “troubles” go away. However, the abortion pill method isn’t one pill; it’s a two-step regimen using two different drugs.

Abortion providers don’t often discuss the risks, but we want you to have evidence-based medical information so you are fully aware of both the physical and emotional risks.

If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, the privacy of ordering the abortion pill online may seem appealing, but ordering these drugs over the internet may bypass several safeguards put in place to protect your health. Let’s take a closer look.

Why Does the FDA Recommend Not Buying Abortion Drugs Online?

The FDA highly regulates the first drug, mifepristone. They approve its use only through the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, and they don’t recommend buying the drug online. Why?

In the United States, medications are approved based on their safety, effectiveness, and quality. Some online drug manufacturers who offer the abortion drugs are from foreign countries. They are not required to follow the same standards, making it impossible to ensure safety protocols.

What Are the Various Risks?

The Mayo Clinic lists the physical risks associated with taking the abortion drugs.

  • The body doesn’t release all of the pregnancy tissue. This is also called an incomplete abortion.
  • An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn’t work.
  • Heavy and prolonged bleeding.
  • Infection.
  • Fever.
  • Digestive symptoms such as an upset stomach.

Women have also shared that they were not prepared emotionally for the process. They were surprised by the amount of blood, pain, and what they actually saw.

What Is the Likelihood I’ll Have Problems?

Although abortion providers claim the drugs are safe for use at home, you do not have the direct oversight of a doctor. You may not know whether you’re in danger of further complications.

Earlier this year, a review of insurance company claims found that the adverse effects of the abortion pill are far greater than what has been shared. The review stated that one in ten women using the abortion pill method experience serious adverse events.

Those events ranged from hemorrhaging (heavy bleeding) to the need for a second abortion procedure. Almost half of these women visited the Emergency Department related to their abortion experience.

Knowing What to Expect Is Crucial

At Elevier Women’s Center, we do not perform or refer for abortion. Still, we do provide a professional, evidence-based medical explanation of the various procedures, the side effects to expect, and the potential physical and emotional risks.

To know if the abortion pill method is an option, schedule an appointment at our center for no-cost, lab-quality pregnancy testing. If your test is positive, we’ll schedule you for a no-cost medical limited obstetrical ultrasound.

An ultrasound detects if your pregnancy is developing, how far along you are, and its location to determine whether it is a viable pregnancy. All vital information to determine if you qualify for the abortion pill method.

Schedule your free appointment today. Get the facts first before you decide. We’ll help you.
