STIs and Fertility
Certain untreated STIs, particularly chlamydia and gonorrhea, are among the leading causes of preventable infertility. If left untreated, these infections can spread from the cervix to the upper reproductive system, causing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID).
PID can cause inflammation and scarring of the fallopian tubes, making it harder for an egg to travel to the uterus. This can reduce the chance of conception and increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy.
