It would be convenient if you could always tell you had an STI based on how you felt, but that often isn’t the case.
According to the CDC, STIs frequently cause mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. That means you could have an infection without realizing it.
Even if you had symptoms that later disappeared, don’t assume the infection is gone. Testing is the best way to learn your status and determine appropriate next steps.
Which STIs Can Be Cured?
Some STIs are curable with the appropriate treatment.
Chlamydia and gonorrhea are bacterial infections that can be cured with prescribed medication. Viral STIs are different. Infections such as HIV and herpes cannot be cured, although treatment can help manage them.

What Does STI Testing Look Like at Elevier?
When you come to Elevier Women’s Center, a nurse will begin by completing a Medical History and Assessment with you. Your sexual practices, health history, and a risk assessment will help determine which testing is appropriate.
A nurse will oversee sample collection for your test. Elevier offers no-cost testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
Your results should be available in approximately 3–5 business days and can be provided during a follow-up appointment or over the phone.
If you test positive, a nurse will review the treatment guidelines with you and call in a prescription during your results appointment.
