Maybe your period comes like clockwork, and it hasn’t arrived yet. Or, you haven’t been paying close attention, but realized it’s been a while since you needed to buy pads.

Either way, from the second you realize your period is late, you could feel nervous about what that means. Could you be pregnant? Is something off with your health?

We’ll share helpful tips below. In the meantime, if there’s a chance you could be pregnant, we invite you to visit Elevier Women’s Center for a no-cost and confidential pregnancy test so you can find out with certainty.

First, Try to Manage Your Stress

Feeling stressed can throw your menstrual cycle off. Have you been stressed about work or a big test? This can delay your period, and now that you missed it, stress from this event can delay it further. Try to relax as much as possible and see if your period arrives.

Take a Pregnancy Test

If it’s a day or two (or more) after your missed period, you have the green light to take an accurate pregnancy test. Usually, this is enough time to find out whether or not you’re pregnant. However, for some women, it may take a little longer for an accurate result.

You can visit Elevier Women’s Center for a no-cost pregnancy test. We’re here and happy to help you find out your results. If you took an at-home test and it was positive, you can also visit us to confirm your pregnancy via a no-cost ultrasound scan.

If your result is negative, give it another couple of days to a week to test again. Or, your period might arrive. You may want to visit an OB/GYN if you continue to get negative results without your period to look for other health issues, such as when your body doesn’t ovulate for a month or irregular periods

What If the Test Is Positive?

Beyond a late period, a positive pregnancy test can be even more emotional because it confirms your suspicions and a new reality.

The next step will be to confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound scan. This essential imaging technique will show you whether your pregnancy is in the uterus and whether it is a viable pregnancy. It will also take measurements to confirm your pregnancy’s gestational age (how far along you are) and estimate your due date. This is key medical information when making pregnancy decisions.

These details will reveal your available options and help you protect your health.
