Think you may have an STI, sexually transmitted infection? We know this time can seem overwhelming and nerve-racking. You are not alone in this.

At Elevier Women’s Center, we’re here to help you get answers with free and confidential STI testing.

What Are STIs?

They are spread through sex or sexual activity by a person infected with a sexually transmitted infection (STI). They can pass from one individual to another by blood, semen, vaginal and other bodily fluids. Many common STIs include:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Genital herpes
  • HIV/AIDS
  • HPV
  • Hepatitis B

It’s important to get tested and treated right away to safeguard your health and your partner’s health. Many STIs have serious consequences if left untreated.

Common Symptoms of STIs

Think you may have an STI? The chance of getting an STI increases when you have multiple partners.

Certain STIs come with symptoms, while others do not. It’s important to get tested to be sure of where your sexual health stands. The following may indicate a possible infection:

  • Fever
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Painful, burning urination
  • Unusual or odorous vaginal discharge
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Sore, swollen lymph nodes
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding

Get Tested Right Away

If you’re sexually active, regular testing is important to prevent serious risks to yourself and your partner. If you’re pregnant, an STI can be passed to your baby during pregnancy or childbirth. Pregnancy does not protect you against contracting one.

You could experience the following complications from an untreated STI:

  • Arthritis
  • Heart disease
  • Eye inflammation
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Infertility
  • Certain cancers
