Every woman has struggled to see herself in a positive light at times. With culture’s unrealistic goals for women and what women’s bodies should look like, it can be easy to fall into low self-esteem and a negative view of your body.
Brush off the world’s standard of beauty, remember your worth, and eliminate negative self-talk. There is only one of you on this planet, and your uniqueness is your strength.
Know Your Worth
Though your outward appearance has some importance, it’s crucial to remember your worth and the value you bring outside of what you look like. Your worth can come from many things, including:
- How you treat others (and yourself)
- Using your gifts & strengths to better the world around you
- Keeping your commitments to others & yourself
- Choosing courage over your fears
You are not simply what you look like but the value you bring to society and your friends and family through your actions.
Eliminate Negative Self-Talk
The better grip you have on what true worth and value come from, the easier it will be for your self-talk to start becoming positive, as well as what you say to yourself on a day-to-day basis. Your actions stem from what you believe about yourself.
Changing what you believe about yourself little by little can help you get out of the pit of negative self-talk and overcome it.
A great way to begin this journey is to find someone who is in a good spot with their identity. Ask them for advice and mentorship! We all need someone else to remind us of who we really are when we don’t believe it yet.
Show Acts of Kindness for Yourself
Lastly, be kind to yourself and wherever you are in your body-positivity journey. Changing your beliefs and how you view yourself takes time, as well as giving grace to yourself. Some great ways to start showing acts of kindness to yourself include:
- Writing out your beliefs & positive affirmations in a journal
- Finding hobbies that bring you life
- Fill your body with healthy, whole foods that your body will love
- Find like-minded, positive friends/mentors to surround yourself with
